Hystrix cristata is a porcupine with sharp white quills, red eyes, 24-33 inches in length and weighing 13-27 kg. It lives on the ground and is not a good climber, though it can swim. It is a nocturnal mammal which gives birth to one or two offspring after a 66-day gestation period. Nowadays very few albino crested porcupine survive in the wild. Despite being exotic, rare and much sought after, the truth is albino animals are very weak and have very low natural immunity. Living and surviving becomes difficult and they require much more care.
